چکیده

This paper attacks the problem of seismic travel-time inversion using genetic algorithms. Seismic surveying is usually a precondition to engineering and construction work in an area and travel-time inversion is a method of deducing sub-surface features from the measured travel-times of seismic waves. We consider both the one-dimensional and two-dimensional versions of the problem and explore diierent encod-ings, selection strategies, and crossover operators for the genetic algorithm. Preliminary results indicate that a genetic algorithm is capable of nding geologically plausible structures to t the data.

A new stochastic 3D seismic inversion using direct sequential simulation and co-simulation in a genetic algorithm framework

Stochastic seismic inversion is a family of inversion algorithms in which the inverse solution was carried out using geostatistical simulation. In this work, a new 3D stochastic seismic inversion was developed in the MATLAB programming software. The proposed inversion algorithm is an iterative procedure that uses the principle of cross-over genetic algorithms as the global optimization techniqu...

Joint inversion of ReMi dispersion curves and refraction travel times using particle swarm optimization algorithm

Shear-wave velocity ( ) is an important parameter used for site characterization in geotechnical engineering. However, dispersion curve inversion is challenging for most inversion methods due to its high non-linearity and mix-determined trait. In order to overcome these problems, in this study, a joint inversion strategy is proposed based on the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The ...

Seismic Tomography

The inversion of seismic travel-time data for radially varying media was initially investigated by Herglotz, Wiechert, and Bateman (the HWB method) in the early part of the 20th century [1]. Tomographic inversions for laterally varying media began in seismology starting in the 1970's. This included early work by Aki, Christoffersson, and Husebye who developed an inversion technique for estimati...

Stochastic Seismic Inversion using both Waveform and Traveltime Data and Its Application to Time-lapse Monitoring

A stochastic approach to seismic inversion using the ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF) is proposed. Seismic depth and time image data are used as the input for EnKF stochastic seismic inversion. The sonic log is used to estimate source wavelet and create initial models for the inversion, which provides an efficient integration of sonic log data and seismic data. We use both travel time and waveform...

Applications of Inverse Methods to the Analysis of Refraction and Wide-angle Seismic Data

The refraction inverse problem was initially investigated by Herglotz (1907), Bateman (1910), and Wiechert and Geiger (1910) who applied Abel transforms for the inversion of seismic travel-times in radially varying media. For smoothly varying media in the absence of low velocity zones, this formulation provides an inverse solution which includes ray bending. In the presence of low velocity zone...
